Failed in IIT JEE? No worries, a bright future still awaits you!

May 15, 2014 | Students

IIT JEE is undoubtedly one of the most sought after engineering entrances of the country. Majority of the engineering aspirants vying for a seat in elite IITs take this exam. The IITian tag is all what they want! But one cannot be confident of his performance in the exam because it is a highly competitive world and even if majority of the contenders attempt the paper well, it is not possible for everyone to make it to the IITs. Let us analyze the entire situation. Around 13 lakh students appear in JEE Main for around 10 thousand seats in various IITs, which means that 130 students fight for a single seat!

Now suppose your JEE didn’t go as per your expectation and you are pretty sure of not clearing it. Does that mean the end of life? Some would consider it the end of a bright career! The fact is that entering IIT does not guarantee a bright future and not making it to the elite institute does not end your career!

Let us discuss some of the options available for students who don’t make it to the esteemed IITs:

  • IIITs and NITs are equally good: IIITs and NITs are one of the finest institutes offering quality engineering education. Hence, go for NITs or IIITs if not IITs as they are extremely reputed institutes aiding students in achieving their engineering goals.

  • Go for state universities: Those who are not able to qualify IIT JEE can always get admission in various state universities or constituent colleges. Entering such universities is not a big challenge but that does not mean that the standard of education in these colleges is not good. In fact, these institutes are well-known for their quality engineering education. Some of the eminent state institutes include:
  1. College of engineering, Anna University
  2. Cochin university of Science & Technology (CUSAT)
  3. Nirma Institute of Technology
  4. Faculty of Tech & Engineering, MS University
  • Colleges in Public and Private Sectors: They constitute more than 90% of the total engineering seats. However, there is drastic variation in the value of these affiliated colleges. Though some of these colleges offer extremely good engineering programmes, but students are advised to be cautious while selecting the course as well as college.
  • Deemed universities have also gained pace: Various private and deemed universities have also build up a very good reputation in the sphere of engineering colleges. Some of the eminent universities like the BITS Pilani are an excellent option for those who are not able to make it to the IITs. Since it is a question of your career, so students are advised to carefully analyze the status and rank of university they intend to join.

Hence, even if you didn’t make it to the IITs, don’t feel low as you might have a brighter future than the IITians even! What matters more is your dream to pursue a career in engineering and as long as you are able to achieve it, you should not regret for not making it to IITs. In this competitive world, you must aim for the best, but be contended with the second best if you don’t succeed in getting the best!

On behalf of the Student Caring International Community, THANK YOU RAKESH  for your guest contribution: Failed in IIT JEE? No worries, a bright future still awaits you.

Why Your Opinion Matters:

Our book:The Caring Professor: A Guide to Effective, Rewarding, and Rigorous Teaching, was written with feedback from many educators and students, which was our plan all along. We began by outlining our thoughts on a series of topics, then we recorded them to share with the world. From the feedback we received, we were informed about the needs of the student caring community. We need your feedback so we may continue to fulfill our mission statement and help students, the world over.

Thank you!
