Studies, Social Life, or Sleep?

College students in the top IT school in Manila are usually faced with this question: how will you balance your academics, social life and sleep?

Social life is a part of one’s college life. How far you plan to indulge in it is completely up to you. Club events and other co-curricular activities can be useful to your development in school. You have to plan your social life carefully. Weigh the pros and cons before going to a certain social event.

Getting good grades is essential to any student because it could help you land your dream job quickly since some companies take note on the student’s performance in school during the hiring process. Failing a subject means you have to repeat it, which can be annoying since it means you will be delayed among your batch mates.

Sleep is important as well. Without sleep, the student won’t have any energy to perform well during his classes. Eight hours of sleep is always recommended by science but sometimes that is not possible, which is why taking a nap can be a viable solution to the less-than-eight-hours snooze you need.

People say time management is the key to surviving college, which can be very hard to do. Many students say that it’s better to choose two than balance all three; some even claim it’s impossible to do the latter. So which combination will you choose?

Studies and Sleep

These are the students who you only see during class and along the hallways. They are the ones who get dubbed as “nerds” and they always get to brag the amount of sleeping time they get. Student Caring | Sleep or Party

Social Life and Sleep

Everyone envies their social media posts which are always about the parties, concerts, and events they’ve been to…until exams week. They are often thought of as ‘too cool for school’ and they scold those who talk about homework.

Social Life and Studies

These are the cool people who always bring coffee to class so they can stay awake but sometimes end up falling asleep in the middle of the class. They often say how little sleep they get to every person they talk to (“I only had two hours of sleep, dude.”).

The One Who Balances All Three

These students rarely exist. As Bob Ong said in his book ABNKKBSNPLAko?!, these students are referred to as “Children of Rizal”. These students ace all of their classes but are not considered as geeks because they have time for extra co-curricular activities and having fun with their friends.

No matter what combination you will choose, remember that all three are important
for your growth and development as a college student.

Some people choose to sacrifice one that they don’t need right now (like how some students choose sleep and academics over social life because their grades are much more important to them compared to going to parties). So while you can’t have much sleep or party as much as you want or aim for Latin honors, just make sure you keep a healthy balance. Sleep and have fun but get your degree without killing yourself from exhaustion all throughout your student life.
