10 Essential Things You Should Know Before You Start College

There are some major milestones everyone must go through in life.  Graduating high school, moving on to college, buying a house, and starting a family are the four that top the charts.  But, if you are not careful about how you spend in college, achieving those last two milestones can become difficult.

So, that’s why you should know these essential things before you start college.

1)         You May Not Like The First Semester Classes

In your first semester, you may be required to take common units. Common units can be boring because lecturing will mostly happen in common halls with over a thousand students. If you were used to being in a class of 70 and below, you could find the classes too boring.

2)         Different Rules And Regulations

Every college has its rules and regulations. Some will require you not to cook in school while others will allow. One universal rule across all colleges is that no student should use drugs within the college premises. You should read the rules and regulations booklet that usually comes with your college admission letter. It will inform you of the things needed and those that are prohibited. Don’t fall a victim because of your ignorance.

3)         How you will help refinance student loans

It is crucial to know how you will help refinance your student loans, especially when you are coming from a humble background. Life in college isn’t as easy as in primary or high school.

You will find out that apart from the fee, you will be required to use tons of dollars to purchase items as well. In high school, you were served with all meals, given uniforms, exercise books and sometimes textbooks. This will not be the case on campus. You will buy food, buy your clothes, exercise books. Once in a while, you may find the textbooks you need aren’t in the library. You will have to buy them as well.

4)         Know Where To Buy Your Meals

Colleges offer meals at a fair price. There are tons of meals available at the students’ center. Go for whatever you need. Though, sometimes, you may miss what you want from the students’ center. Don’t panic. Instead, inquire from your senior friends. You can also walk around and discover other places where you can find alternative meals.

5)         Help Desk Should Be Your Great Resource

Orientations may not be enough for you to know every detail of the school. That’s why help desks are there in any college. You may not be told how to activate your student portal, create your student email, how to get your transcripts and so on.

You need to reach out to the help desk around. Most colleges have help desks per faculty. This is an advantage. Your problems will be solved properly. Though, it’s not a guarantee.

6)         Don’t be bored. Tons of activities awaits you

Don’t feel bored at the college. College should be a place where you interact with many people. There are tons of events that will be available for you to take part in.

For instance, all colleges have religious groups. Join any. You have the right to worship either in school or outside. Apart from that, there are sports clubs, academic clubs, and social clubs. Join any and make your college life interesting.

7)         You Will Take Care Of Yourself

You might have been pampered or coddled in either primary or high school. In college, no one will do that. You will have to know what is right and wrong. Besides, nobody will help you plan with the little cash you have. Your parent will require you to manage it by yourself.

8)         The Professors Will Not Treat You Special

You may feel like you have made it in life. The honest truth is that that’s when you are beginning. The professors won’t give you special treatment like your Biology teacher would, probably because you were the best in your class. There are tons of students in college. In fact, you may join and complete your studies in college without a professor knows your name.

9)         You Will Know More Outside Classroom

You may have join college thinking you will learn more in class. That’s not true. You will learn more outside classrooms. Look, lectures will always take not more than three hours in a sitting and not more than nine hours in a day. So, what will you be doing with the remaining fifteen hours? Probably, that is the time you will be encountering problems and finding solutions to them.

10) Don’t Party All The Time

Too much of partying can squeeze your time and lose track of your studies. Remember, the core business is that you learn. Partying up to late night may be dangerous. Firstly, this is the time robbers walk around. Secondly, you will have inadequate sleep time, thus skipping classes.

All the above is essential, but without adequate resources, you can’t do all these. In fact, you cannot join college. Therefore, you need to know how you will help refinance student loans. That way, you will have a comfortable life in college. Just be careful not to waste the little financing you get from the loans.
