Working with online classes can be difficult due to time constraints, course requirements, and life can always get in the way. There are many benefits for doing online coursework, but sometimes scheduling the time to complete the assignments and staying motivated can be challenging. How do you stay true to an online course schedule? If you are moving to more online schooling, here are some tips to make your schedule more manageable.
Schedule Both Classwork and Homework
Each online school comes with its own requirements for student involvement, however most schools suggest designating separate times for classwork and homework. There are online programs for every level of education, so there is not one universal schedule to follow. For example, Ohio’s UC Clermont College of Nursing offers a full completion program to become a nurse; the time commitment at this school will be different from other schools. Find out the expectations of your courses and allow some time to find out how fast you can get through a week’s worth of assignments. Take note of how long each type of assignment takes you and schedule slots of study time accordingly. Allow wiggle room to account for more difficult weeks or life events. Don’t forget lunch breaks or to schedule in slots of time for hobbies.
Scheduling through Apps
With the technology era taking the world by storm, there are plenty applications and programs that can help keep your schedule in sync. If you’re one of those people who accidentally throw away hand-written schedules, having a virtual schedule might help. Studious is a free app designed for in person classes, but you could use it for your online classes too. Studious will track your homework deadlines and hold you to the times you designate for your studies. Other apps like this include Student Agenda, My Study Life, and TimeTune Schedule.
Balance School and Life
Schedules and apps are great once set up, but you have to stick to them. There’s an art to building a schedule and sticking with it. The schedule needs to be realistic. A good schedule includes classwork and homework time for each course, as well as a lunch break and some time to relax. If you build a schedule that’s packed with school-related time you’re going to burn out. Build a schedule that gives you the freedom to be you.
Creating a good schedule is like walking a tightrope: it takes poise and balance. Build a schedule that fits you, use technology to help keep yourself committed, and make sure to schedule enough time to get your studies done.
